Famous English comedians like Peter Sellers, Dudley More, Tommy Cooper, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Rowan Atkinson and Baron Cohen, started at the London Theaters and clubs. Between Exendon Street, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square are three famous comedy theaters close by The Comedy Store, the Comedy Upstairs Downstairs, and the Comedy Theater. If you want to attend a comedy show elsewhere in London, the Amused Moose in Soho or the Ha Bloody Ha in Ealing is an excellent choice.

The Comedy Store

The Comedy Store is one of the first clubs in London that focused on comedy. It is still one of London’s best comedy clubs. There is a show on almost every day of the week. Only on Monday evening, there are usually no shows. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, stand-up comedians will perform. On Wednesday and Sunday night, it is inspired by the wishes of the public. The room seats 400 people, but the hall is regularly sold out. Pre-booking is advisable.

The Comedy Upstairs Downstairs

If you feel easily hurt you should not go to The Comedy Upstairs Downstairs. The humour can be sharp and sometimes rough but is usually very fun. If your clothing, behaviour or moustache is very noticeable, you can be involved in the show, but in general, the artists in this theater are quite gentle about the audience. Pre-booking is advisable.

The Comedy Theater

The Comedy Theater has been in existence since 1881. Regularly musical comedies are performed in the theater, but you can also see experimental theater pieces here. The Rocky Horror Show had the West End Premiere.

The Amused Moose Comedy Clubs

The Amused Moose Comedy Clubs are among the first comedy clubs in London and are publicly friendly. They call it “first date-friendly.” So even if you’re in the first row with a hat like a fruit basket, you do not have to be afraid of jokes in your direction.

Have Bloody Ha in Ealing

In the old film studio of Ealing today the comedy club Ha Bloody Ha is located. Only the film studio is worth a visit. In the studio, some of England’s best comedies are shot. The club is known for the upcoming comedians performing on Friday and Saturday evenings.

How do you book a comedy or musical, play in London?

Many ticket booking sites in London are affiliated with Star, a trade association of theater ticket vendors, according to strict guidelines on ticket sales. These guidelines have been prepared by the Office of Fair Trading, the London Tourist Board and the Society of London Theater.
Tickets and chair reservation for the theater

If you do not want to be in the queue for a seat and want a place, you can buy a ticket online and reserve a seat online. If you purchase a ticket for the theater online and reserve a seat, you will receive a confirmation email immediately. This allows you to get tickets for a place reservation one hour in advance at the ticket office. If you reserve two weeks in advance, you can get the tickets sent at home, but it is probably easier to pick up an appointment at the checkout one hour before the start of the show.

Two reliable ticket providers for the London Theater are:

  1. London Theater Direct
  2. Discount Theater

Both are affiliated with STAR industry association. You can compare prices online for the best deals.

The seats in a theater

Most show rooms have several floors. The chairs in the hall on the ground floor are the Stalls, also called Orchestra Stalls or Orchestra Seats. The chairs in the room are close to the stage. The chairs on the balcony are also known as the Dress Circle or Royal Circle. The best chairs are those on the first row of the balcony and a lot of the chairs in the hall. You must pay extra for these Best Seats. Please note some seats are cheap, but you have a limited view of the stage. If you buy a cheap ticket, please be aware that it is not a Restricted View. A “Best Seat” is always good.

To the theater on Sunday

On Sundays, most shows in London are closed. Some popular shows that are also held on Sundays are Stomp and The Lion King.

When should you be at the theater?

You must be in London about half an hour before the performance of the theater. If you have purchased a ticket online and had to pick it up, you can do it one hour in advance.
Children and theater

Children are allowed in most theaters but must pay the full price for a ticket. A rule of thumb is held five years and over. Some English shows are less suitable for children and adolescents up to 16 years. This is usually the case in raw language or directly. When booking the tickets, please indicate whether there is an age restriction.

Do not wait until the last moment to reserve seats

Wherever you buy your ticket, do not forget to compare the “Booking Fee.” To have fun in comedy shows and theaters in London, make the reservation of your seats in early stages to avoid any hassle.
